Social Media Manager (voluntary)

Social media manager
Up to 5 hours a week
Voluntary, unless funding can be secured
Immediate start date desirable

‘Brum Unitarians’ is a Unitarian community attended by people across the spectrum of faith, from atheists to theists and all inbetween. We offer Sunday gatherings from a fundamentally humanist perspective, inclusive of people of all faiths and none. We are explicitly LGBTQ+ inclusive, committed to anti-racism, and guided by the principle that ‘we need not think alike to love alike’.

In 2025 we began using social media for the first time so people could find us and explore what we are about. We have a basic functional website, an instagram account and a WhatsApp announcements group. We have MeetUp and Eventbrite accounts and a dormant Facebook page/group.

We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic about providing up to 5 hours a week help with the basic management of our social media. This role would be largely voluntary but we have been awarded a one-off sum of £500 to help secure someone, which we could use to pay an hourly rate for a defined period.
Once the funding has been exhausted, it is currently unlikely that this will continue as a paid role, unless we are successful in securing further funding. Therefore, this might suit someone who is either looking to demonstrate experience or who is motivated to volunteer their time due to an alignment between their philosophy and ours.
The person appointed will be responsible for:

-
Writing weekly copy in our ‘house style’ to advertise the upcoming Sunday gathering on our socials (currently, this is instagram + WhatsApp + our website) and sourcing an appropriately licenced photo accompanying the copy
-
Uploading the content weekly onto the relevant platform(s)
-
On an ad-hoc basis, the above tasks but for non-Sunday events hosted by Brum Unitarians
Other ways in which we need assistance from a willing and competent person (either a volunteer or person who is willing to be paid on a short-term basis from our £500 fund) include:

-
The design of a series of instagram posts to tell people a bit more about Brum Unitarians and what we do (untapped resources available)
-
Exploring our potential reach to Gen Z via TikTok or YouTube, should we choose to enter those platforms, and advising us on what would be involved in creating appropriate content
and/or

-
Advising us about:
-
Platform configuration
-
Maximising reach/engagement
-
Security and data protection
-
Any other relevant considerations
